ProAddiction vs Keratin: Which Smoothing Treatment Is Right for You?
If you're weighing a smoothing service to tame frizz and cut blow-dry time, two names come up most often: traditional Keratin and ProAddiction. They look similar on the surface — both promise sleeker, more manageable hair — but the formulations, the experience in the chair, and the long-term impact on your hair are very different.
What each treatment actually is
Traditional Keratin treatments coat the hair with a keratin-protein solution that's sealed in with high heat. Many classic formulas rely on formaldehyde (or formaldehyde-releasing ingredients) to lock the cuticle. The result is very straight, very smooth hair — but the formula is one-size-fits-all.
ProAddiction is a newer category of customizable smoothing system. The treatment is mixed on a per-client basis: Ester chooses the active concentration and processing time based on your hair's density, porosity, color history, and the result you want — softer movement, glassy-straight, or somewhere in between. It is formaldehyde-free.
